Thanks JV... a lot of questions there I never considered when I started looking. I think I'm going to start with just a digital vid-cam on a tripod, I know I'm not going to get the highest quality...

Experiment with 12's and work down to 11's, 13's are harder to play even for old guys like myself. Tens would not carry a very good sound I don't think, but then I've never tried them on my...

My personal preference is for the Martin acoustic sound. If you like the sound of another guitar maker, that's the one you should go for.

The Right Guitar

For acoustics I always wind up back at the store looking at Martins, no matter what else I buy, I take it back and get a Martin. They are like an addiction to me. All of mine have Spruce tops,...

Last year I bought a Martin Custom 000-MMV, which is the small bodied guitar with phenomenal sound. It has all the solid hardwoods(no laminates) and the new type bracing. Right after I bought it I...

Acoustic/Electric

I've owned Gibson's, Taylor's, Ovations, Eastmans, etc.
Every time I wind up going in and trading them for a Martin. Sure, I've also got a Strat and a Rickenbacker, but ALL my acoustics are...

The .011's will be easier on your fingers for playing but they won't quite carry the tone as well as the .012's. I've been playing the .013's on my D-35 Martin for a long time and I'm moving back...

It's all in personal preference, I've tried many different gages and sizes of strings and many different string makers, but I've always returned to the Martins. My favorites are the non-coated...

All personal preference. I like the 80/20 Bronze or Phosphors and I've tried the D'Adario's, Ernie Ball and slew of others, I've always drifted back to the Martin's. And the '72 D35?.... SAWEET!

Send your pics to Martin or take it in with you sometime and have an expert look at it. I'd love to hear it sing. The wood and configuration on the back resembles a D-28 or D-35.

I agree with mcquinnsr. Change out the strings and play it ...A LOT... if there's a set-up problem and you bought it at a dealer take it back in and tell them the problem. If not then you may have...

New Guitar

You should find a retailer you trust and continue testing out guitars until you find the right one for YOU. Of course like me, you may wind up with a dozen guitars on your wall too.

Pick Up

Try the Seymour Duncan Woody's ... works great on my acoustics with no electronics. Or just mic that puppy.

Action stuff

Sounds like it just needs to be taken to a luthier for a tune-up. Or return to the retailer and tell them they can tune it up or take it back?

I've had Martins in my music room...well, since I've had a music room. My personal opinion is that the DRS2 is a very good choice to start your collection with and it sounds good too like a Martin...

Can you take some better pic's and post them? That actually looks like it could be some dried out cleaning solution or wax? The image is a bit blurred so can't really tell from that.
